6 Reasons to Why We Love Perth in Western Australia
It’s no secret that we love our where we are! Granted it is the most isolated capital city on the planet (or so we’re told) but that doesn’t stop us from loving this place we call home. Perth is an incredible city and offers so many amazing things to see and do that differ from the east coast. For a start, our summers are beaches are quiet, and the places to explore are endless.
Reason 1. Beaches on your doorstep
Yes, the east coast has some amazing beaches, but so does the west coast and they are always much less busy! Although Perth is a big city, drive only a few minutes and you will find yourself at one of the many beautiful beaches. So many in fact that we wouldn’t know where to start! You see, Perth is basically built along over 120km’s of coastline from north to south. Yes, it is jus one long beack.
Our favourite beaches to visit in Perth include Cottesloe, Trigg, and Scarborough. Most tourists opt to go to Fremantle beach. While the area of Fremantle is beautiful and the nightlife there is the best in Perth, the beach isn’t the best. Make sure to venture a little bit further than Fremantle and check out some of the other beaches Perth has to offer.
My kids absolutely loved running around in theirsandalswhich they always got wet and did their best to make a mess of them! Don’t forget to get them some lovely hats to keep them from getting burnt!
Reason 2. Sunsets
With beaches come sunsets. Of course we would say that Western Australia has some of the best sunsets in Australia. In the evenings, the sky always puts on a show. It is actually rare not to have a good sunset in Perth. We know so many people who have pretty much become numb to them! We of course, love each and every one! There are endless places that are great to watch the sun go down in Perth. From the beaches mentioned above to bars and restaurants on Perth’s Elizabeth Quay. Our favourite of course is our local Trigg beach. If you want to stick to Aussie tradition, watch the sun go down while eating fish and chips (and don’t forget a beer too!
Reason 3. Rottnest Island
One of the most iconic, and beautiful places in Perth is Rottnest Island. This remote and stunning island is located 20km from Perth by Ferry. Once there, the island is yours to explore however you want. In our opinion, it is one of the most beautiful places in Australia (of course we are a little biased). The hidden bays and bright turquoise waters are pure magic. If you can manage to check out Rottnest during the weekdays it is very possible that you may even get a whole beach to yourself! Most people get around Rottnest Island by bike. The road around Rottnest is 22km and cycling is a great way to explore all the island has to offer. If you are fitness challenged like I am, there is the option of an electric bike, really important as some of the hills on Rottnest are deceptive! Rottnest can be explored on a day-trip or if you want more time there (which you probably will) then book accommodation and stay a night or two in paradise! Rottnest Island is also home to the Quokka, a friendly little marsupial that is only found on Rottnest Island. Because these cuties don’t have any predators, they are very friendly and will be happy to take a selfie with you!
Reason 4: Camping and the great outdoors
If you want to get a good dose of the great outdoors you don’t have to travel very far, there are some awesome outdoorsy places that make for perfect day trips from Perth. Black Diamond Lake is a gorgeous blue lake that offers camping nearby and is only about 1.5 hours from Perth city center. Logue Brooke Dam is also an awesome recreational place to go camping.
If you have some extra time then it is worth going on a trip in Western Australia. Jurien Bay, Coral Bay, and Exmouth are just of the highlights in Western Australia. Rent a vehicle in Perth and escape into the wilderness of western Australia for a few days – believe me, you won’t regret it!
We recently took a drive up to Monkey Mia to see the dolphins. On the way, we stopped over at Kalbarri and the Pinnacles on the way, what a beautiful place. We have been to many different places in the world with our children and this is still one of the best.
Spots that you just have to see include the coast around Kalbarri. What amazing cliffs and the sky bridge. What a beautiful place WA is!
Reason 5. Wine
Yes, we love our wine. Red, white, rose and bubbly. In moderation of course! Quality over quantity I always say :) The Swan Valley wine region is only 45 minutes from Perth city center and there you can go from winery to winery tasting some of Australia’s amazing wines. Driven tours can be arranged from Perth or even a boat tour along the Swan River can also be arranged.
One thing to remember thought is to watch out for speed cameras on the way. We got snapped a few times just a few k’s over the limit!
Besides wine, at the Swan Valley there are chocolate factories, cheese factories, and even a nougat factory! If you want to venture a little further the region of Margaret River is one of Australia’s best wine regions and it is located on three hours from Perth. Here, you can go on a Margaret River wine tour to try tons of award winning wines as well as enjoy incredible views of the coast! Margaret River is also a great places for those who like hiking, camping, and surfing.
Reason 6 - Kit and Kate are based here!
Ok, this is just our attempt at being funny!
Did we forget to mention that we design all of our shoes? Yes, each and every one of our lovely soft soled, natural leather baby shoes are unique to our brand. Inspired by the classics, we of course love them very much. What’s more, they are designed to be super comfortable so that your little one loves them as much as you do. That is of course if you get them in the correct size for their little feet which is why we wrote a handy sizing guide which you can find here. It has all sorts of handy things like how to measure their feet and conversion charts to allow you to easily compare Australia, European and American sizing. Too easy!
I know, many people say that barefoot is best. I think, which is correct most of the time but their delicate little feet do need some protection when out and about (plus the ground can be a little grotty and full of bugs). Of course, hard rubber soles are a bad idea as it does nothing for their foot and walking development. That’s why we designed them with soft suede soles and non-slip pads, so that they basically feel like going barefoot. Read our blog here about why we think soft soles are the best
Yes, we’d like to think that we are the best place to get shoes and accessories for your baby or toddler in Perth!
